Arie Roos, New Insights Certified Life Coach

My name is Arie Roos and I am a life coach. I really enjoy working with people to solve the challenges in their lives. I think outside the box, and I believe that the best solutions lie outside your box … because the box is your comfort zone. Think about it!

Each of us has a specific challenge to solve and I’m sure you are no different.

It may be that you want to quit smoking, that you are dreaming about taking part in a big sporting event, that you want to find a suitable life partner or fix your relationship with your current life partner. You may want to find a better job or a whole new career (like I did).

Perhaps you want to start your own business or make an existing business more profitable? Perhaps you want to become a more confident person or learn a new skill. Or you may want to overcome the challenge of meeting new friends, developing new friendships or opening up to your current friends more.

Maybe you want to fix your relationship with God, or your relationship with yourself? Or perhaps you simply want to be happy?

No matter what your challenge is, I can promise you three things:

  1. There is a solution for it.
  2. Applying the solution will help you grow into a better person.
  3. I have worked to help someone achieve or overcome a similar challenge before.

Whatever your challenge is, I can help you brainstorm a solution.

A Little About Myself

I was born in Cape Town, raised in Pretoria until the age of 6, and then raised in Cape Town again to the age of 22. I did a gap year as a school camp facilitator near Stanford (the one close to Hermanus) and after that I pursued a degree in Mathematics at Stellenbosch University. Armed with my degree, I moved to Pretoria as an experiment in independence. For a few years I fell around between different software development jobs, never finding my groove. During a particularly disastrous stint at an ERP firm, I decided to see a career coach … and that is how I discovered my calling.

After finding my calling, I made a concerted effort to start studying the science, psychology and philosophy of living a good life and improving yourself. Part of that effort was my studies at New Insights. I found my journey towards my qualification particularly challenging, but also fulfilling on a level I have never experienced before. After two years of hard work, tremendous personal growth and profound challenges to my worldview, I passed my theory exam with a Meritorious Distinction (the highest grade on offer) and went on to gain certification.

I am can now proudly say that I am a life coach, and that I help people with problems and challenges similar to the ones I have battled with. I also help people with problems and challenges I have not battled with and with great success, I might add!

My Special(ity)

I love working with people from all walks of life on solving any challenge that life might throw at them.

That being said, I was taught that describing your market in very broad terms is not ideal from a marketing perspective!

As Bill Burridge  stated in a recent Life Coaching Insights blog post: “If you try to be everything for everybody, you will end up being nothing for nobody.” In that spirit, I have decided to change my speciality (focus might be a better word) every few months. This way I can still work with people on varying challenges!

Every time I change my focus, I work out a special to go with the focus. I’ll share more with you about this when you contact me.

My Approach to Coaching

I find it very important to keep my coaching comfortable, caring and fun. To achieve this I use humour and ‘silliness’, for want of a better word, in ample amounts during the sessions. Not only does this make the sessions enjoyable, but I believe it is easier to change when you can laugh at life, your coach, and yourself.

Apart from having a lot of fun, my clients can expect to have their thinking patterns challenged. My father taught me that to think for yourself is one of the greatest human virtues. Therefore I challenge my clients to think in new ways.

This brings me to my biggest secret: I won’t provide the solution for your challenge! When you work with me I will guide you through the process of finding your own solution – one that you’ll be proud of and fully invested in!

In summary, I am a light-hearted coach with the propensity to get a little philosophical. But that should serve your purpose of finding a solution perfectly. I strongly believe that the best solutions are discovered after pondering challenges in a positive way.

A note on religion:
I am a Christian, and I will use Christian ideas in my coaching. However, I am very flexible in working around my client’s belief system. If your religious views differ from mine, I won’t let that interfere with the coaching process. Integrity and quality are among my top values and I won’t allow ideological issues to compromise those values.
